Greetings from Germany!
Hi folks,
someone visited our guestbook, so here is the response.
Hard to register here, if you don't understand any f... word, but some buttos are still in english, html and php are always the same. Thank you!
It's every time nice to see the Opel Calibra in other countries.
Nice photos in your gallery(grand meet), by the way: we just had a calibra club wedding, too.
http://www.calibra-club.de is a regional club near Heidelberg with 20 calibra, but we meet twice monthly.
(Maybe we can exchange the links on our websites!!!!)
The big german comunities are www.calibra.cc (former calibra.de) and www.calibra-team.de, with about 2000 calibra people but there is just one convention were all try to meet.
So, the calibra-club.Lt is it regional, too!? And www.calibra.Lt is the big one like here!?
How many active members do you have!?
by the way: Do you have speed limits there!? And exaust controls?
Best Regards,
Philipp a.k.a. 204ps (Admin of www.calibra-club.de)

wassup mate, congratulations on discovering calibra-club.lt - no doubt you ll find loads of interesting things here despite you don't understand lithuanian. Moreover if you browse more closely, you ll probably find ours calibra fotos as well, which i predict are quite at high levels overall
Over here, nobody really cares about speed limits or exaust restrictions so much, because officers accepts cash as a rule for a "small" declination from a laws.
Hope that your club ll establish a great connection with our club
for more info ask for more experienced calibra-club members

Re: Greetings from Germany!
Uh, cash rulez the highways in LT?
It doesn't work here, i think.
So 80 people, are a lot. Do you all meet weekly!?
The ICT is the biggest convention in Germany, over 200 tuned Calibra from all over the country, including some calibra from netherland, switzerland and last year some polish an french calibras had been there.
It is usally in August, for 3 Days, consider to spend some vacation there...as a club with almost 80 cars. Would be nice!

Did you ever had a traffic jam like this:

Re: Greetings from Germany!
not on highways, cause there guys have cameras in the patrol cars and to fix all deals with them is much heavyier. But inside city if you go let's say ~80 instead of allowed 50km/h, with 50Lt(~15Eur) is 95% secure, 5% times in can cost you 100Lt(~29Eur) Also because we have biggest penalties if we compare it with average lithuanian salary. For foreigners maybe is not so painfull to pay full penalty price which is up to 86Eur for speeding 20-30kmh, and up to 145 Eur for speeding 30-50kmh, and up to 435 Eur for speeding 50 and more kmh than it is allowed in that area204ps rašė:Uh, cash rulez the highways in LT?

We meet localy each city. 80 calibras are in the club if we count Lithuania. In Vilnius we have i think about 25, Klaipeda will be about 20, and so on204ps rašė: So 80 people, are a lot. Do you all meet weekly!?![]()

It is the same here, a lot of people try to do all the work by themselves, but in germany you have to get technical approvements in your papers, in case of the police is pulling you over.
Those approvement you will only get from big companies. So you have to buy expensive tuning parts or spare parts, although cheap solutions are availible, but not allowed. You know?
But assembling, smal parts, and illegal stuff(kind of under car lights and stuff), we do by ourselves, too.
Better do so, before entering germany!DeX rašė: hmmmm... maybe I should get rid of my pink t-shirts

What about xenon in calibras? If not originaly equiped by manufacturer is it street-legal?204ps rašė: It is the same here, a lot of people try to do all the work by themselves, but in germany you have to get technical approvements in your papers, in case of the police is pulling you over.

E.g. oem hid kit from audi a8 are installed in calibra housings, is it allowed (as you know, oem products have dot/ece/tuv sertificates)?
Do police watch for lamps washings if xenon are installed?
I'm going to have half-year business @ phorzheim, so it`s usefull to know all the shadings with the police
Thanks for the answers in advance!

Xenon is a big Problem.
The German Automobile Society wanted to forbit all Xenon(because of blinding) including OEM, but they were to late.
Now all new cars can be purchased with Xenon optionaly. But to get Xenon in an older car you need Euro certificated lamps(bulbs), lamp washer and automatic light range controllers. The original calibra adjusting wheel with 4 different positions is not enough.
A lot of Calibra in Germany have Xenon, without papers. Some with papers, but no one knows their origin (maybe fake), some people have the washers and the controllers and spend a lot of money for a single approvement.
The Police stopps cars if their headlights are flashing other people.... lowered cars and xenon on a bad road is horror. Without paper they perhaps take the car down from road. You never know. But usually a lot of new cars have xenon now, so the police don't know exactly which car is originally equipet with xenon.
But with a foreign license plate, you will not have any problems.
Just tell them, that in LT it is more dark and it is build in by a licensed service shop. Something like that. But don't offer money!
LT, PL, Cs will mostly be stopped for controls with alkohol, zigaretts and stuff from eastern europe. So know one cares about wrong headlights, i think.

the required ECE leveling (light range contr.) system is not possible in calibra housings...
One more question : what about tinted side windows? Would be there any problems in your country to drive car with LT licence plate?

@calibra
tinted side windows are not allowed in germany.(Just back and rear side)
But in USA. and so a lot of US Cars (with US license plates) here have those, and no one cares.
If it is legal in LT, no one would make trouble.
If the police stopps you, better lower both windows, to let them see inside.
@denistattoo
Thanks man. Rüdigers Cabrio is originally Hornstein.
Hornstein made the best Cabrio convertions imho. They use a Audi top, which is foldaway totally.
Calibra as carbio is hot, i think!
Hornstein don't do it anymore, but a garage in Berlin bought the licenses to do the same convertions. It cost now about 10 - 20 k Euro, just the convertion!
Yes the laws in Germany are way to much! We have to major laws for the road. All the traffic rules (street traffic regulation), and a law called "street traffic registration regulation" which discribes what is allowed or not.

This is not a stupid question, i think we have less cold winters here, but we have usually some snow or ice for some weeks in January, and the salt is killing our cars too. But i think in LT this is more a problem!danistattoo rašė:Sorry for mayby stupid question, but in what cyti of Germany are you guys?Do You have ruff winters there and what about rust on Your car, because the solt that is on the street in winter is killing our Calibras. It is very pitty that we have to repaint it every spring,to look it perfect for summer seazon.
The only way is to use a lot of water to wash it from the downside...if you have the rost once, it will come back every year.
Some calibras from 95-97 are not assembled in germany, but in suomi, where they now build the porsche boxter. Those calibras are more resistant to rost. i hope this is true i have one of those.
Did you ever try to use boat/ship paint....these colors are usually not resistant to sunlight but to rost. So you can use it for the downside.
We say: An Opel engine usually spills some oil...otherwise the car would get rost.
-
204ps
Happy people who don't know what rost is =)204ps rašė:Haha *lol![]()
The second one is maybe not that funnny.....but true!
I have to refill a littel bit from time to time. Don't know where the oil goes!
There are places on earth where cars usually don't get any rost at all.
You need a lot of snow tires and chains, right!?
Using snow tires in winter time is required by LT law. In Lithuania thorn tires are legal, they aren't forbiden like in Germany.
Chains aren't popular at all (except extreme offroading) - we don't have so much snow =)
-
204ps
So you have more ice on the streets.
In Germany torns are fobidden and winter tires are not required by law.
But in case of an accident in wintertimes, your insurance makes trouble.
So they are recomended and by the way better to drive below a certain temperature.
You talked about repainting the cars more often....
How much does a paint job in LT cost?
Whole car, rear fender part, door, front wing/bumper for example!?
